In celebration of 150 years since it first opened its doors as the first indigenous local insurance provider, the Hand in Hand Mutual Fire Insurance Company Limited unveiled postal stamps to mark this auspicious anniversary.  The stamps were officially unveiled by Chairman of the group Mr. John Carpenter and Junior Public Works Minister Annette Ferguson on October 13th, 2016 at the company’s Barr street office, which was recently opened and named for its first Chairman, Mr. Edward G. Barr.

The Honourable Minister Annette Ferguson earmarked the importance of the postal sector and in her address remarked that “The timely unveiling of this stamp reinforces the truth, Guyana remains committed to the idea of relations with our international partners…this stamp is a symbol of Guyana’s commitment to the postal services.”

In his address to the invitees, Director Howard Cox stated “Commemorative stamps are the perfect memorabilia to celebrate an anniversary of significant event. Such stamps are circulated both locally and internationally to a wide cross section of people. Stamps also attract the interests of Philatelists who purchase, sell and store them as valued collectables,”

The stamps feature pictures of the company’s iconic and unique steel building in the early 1900’s and a picture of the building presently and are available in denominations of $80 & $150.
