The Hand-in-Hand Mutual Fire Insurance Company Ltd, Guyana’s longest established property insurer, proudly collaborated with the Guyana Heritage Society to reprint a historically significant book, “The Rupununi Development Company Limited: The Early History” by Harry Everard Turner, O.B.E.
On Friday 27th May 2022, members of the private sector, political figures, dignitaries, directors of the Rupununi Development Company, and special invitees graciously attended the launch of the reprinted book at Hand-in-Hand’s conference room.
President of the Guyana Heritage Society, Mr. Petamber Persaud, served as Master of Ceremonies for the enlightening event. Guests were welcomed by Mr. Omadatt Singh, Director of the Rupununi Development Company, and Hand-in-Hand Group of Companies, who expressed gratitude towards the Guyana Heritage Society for initiating this project.
Honored guest speaker, Major General (Ret’d) Joseph Singh, presented a comprehensive and captivating review of the book. In his remarks, he stated that “the history of the Rupununi Development Company is therefore the story of one Company’s experience of large-scale animal husbandry in a tropical savannah environment”. He also shared his experiences of exploring the Rupununi Savannah.
Director of the Rupununi Development Company, Mr. Peter Fraser presented copies of the book to representatives of the National Library of Guyana, University of Guyana, and Mr. Enrique Monize, Commissioner/Chief Executive Officer, Lands and Surveys Commission.
The event was concluded by Attorney-at-Law, Legal and Compliance Officer of Hand-in-Hand Group of Companies, Mr. Paul Braam, who delivered the closing remarks, followed by Ms. Deeann Ali, member of the executive committee of the Guyana Heritage Society, who gave the vote of thanks.
Additionally, each guest received a complimentary copy of the book and proceeded to Hand-in-Hand’s roof garden, where they were treated with refreshments and mingled whilst enjoying melodious steel pan music.
