The Hand In Hand Mutual Fire Insurance Company held its 150th Anniversary Cocktail on 24th October, 2015, in celebration of being the oldest and most dominant Property Insurer in Guyana.
The event was graced with the presence of many including Honorable Minister Mr. Dominic Gaskin and the Honorable Prime Minister Mr. Moses Nagamootoo.
Honorable Minister Nagamootoo in his remarks said that “The Company has gone through a remarkable transformation from its humble beginnings and to become a major player in the insurance industry in Guyana today”.
Established on October 25th 1865, Hand In Hand was crowned the first indigenous insurance company in the Nation. On August 10th 1878, the foundation stone was laid at the north east corner of the company’s greatest achievements: the Head Office building. The building enhanced the beauty of Georgetown. In 1984 a new building was completed, adjoining the Head Office, at the corner of Robb Street and the Avenue of the Republic.
Despite many challenges, including the three great fires of Georgetown during 1913-1962, the Company has managed to grow significantly; from just four employees in 1879 to over 150 employees currently and 15 branches throughout Guyana.
